St. Clair Dental

Aging Dentistry

Specialized care for our aging patients. Our seniors are susceptible to additional risk factors.

St. Clair Dental was founded in the 80’s and we are proud that a large percentage of our current practice has been with us since the beginning. This is a wonderful advantage as we are guiding our patients through the different stages of their lives. We are able to adjust their individualized treatment plans to reflect changes in oral and health needs. The current senior population appears to be aging more gracefully than the generations before them by making better choices for an active, healthy and vibrant life.

What to watch for

  • Dry mouth – decrease in saliva is a natural occurrence and can be worsened by medication – increased risk of decay, gum disease and sores
  • Thinning of the edges of the teeth from clench/ grind, acid wear and generalized wear and tear- prone to fractures
  • Gum recession from gum disease, years of over brushing, wear and tear – can lead to decay, sensitivity or the need for a gum graft
  • Generalized loss of bone from dentures or missing teeth – difficulty eating which will affect food choices
  • Partial dentures causing damage to surrounding teeth
  • Dental work that has been present for 20+ years starts to deteriorate and needs replacement- difficulty accessing treatment due to fixed income
  • Reduced dexterity affecting home care abilities
  • Reduce frequency of cleaning to decrease cost as well as decrease visits
  • Postponing dental procedures

All these issues can be managed successfully with our dental team who can help guide you through these changes and ensure you are successful. There are many products on the market that can help diminish the risk factors. It is such a disappointment to invest all your time and money through the younger years to maintain your dental health, to then stop and lose everything you worked so hard to maintain.

Please remember the dental health we maintain in our 30’s 40’s and 50’s will determine your dental health or dental deterioration in your 70’s 80’s and 90’s. Let us help you navigate through these years to ensure great dental health throughout your life.

Radiant and healthy smiles lead to vibrant and AGELESS lives!
