Cosmetic Dentistry
The artistic side of dentistry from a complete smile redesign to enhancing your smile with tooth whitening, and everything in between.
An implant is an artificial (titanium) post that replaces the root of a tooth after a tooth has been removed or extracted. This titanium post can then be used to support a natural looking artificial tooth. When more teeth are missing, several implants can be placed to support more teeth.
A single missing tooth or several missing teeth are more than just an aesthetic concern. Adjacent teeth to the space can shift, tip, and move into the empty space. This can cause alignment issues which can lead to food impaction, decay, and gum disease. If one or more teeth are missing for long periods of time, the bone in the jaw can recede and resorb. This may allow sinuses to expand into this area on the upper jaw and the resorption (bone loss) may require extensive bone grafting if an implant becomes a necessity in the future. When many teeth on one arch are missing for many years, this lack of bone may cause permanent facial changes and the jaw may become prone to fracture.
Placing implants stimulates bone growth and maintains the current level of bone in the jaw. This process of osteointegration (bone and implant fusing) enables the implant to be a strong, long term and dependable option for replacing missing teeth.
Implants can be used to replace a single tooth, several teeth or entire arches (upper or lower). Implants can be used to support a single crown/ cap, a bridge, removable dentures, or a fixed appliance. The options are endless.
