Oral Examinations & Oral Cancer Screenings

Detailed exams are performed at every visit to ensure any changes are detected early, including oral cancer lesions.

Oral Examinations

St. Clair Dental values and recognizes the importance of examinations at every visit. Your visit to our office will include a New Patient exam, an Emergency exam or a Specific exam.‍

New Patient Examinations

This is a starting point and a base line for all future examinations. We evaluate your head/neck and mouth with great care and competency. Checking lymph nodes, jaw inflammation, tooth structure, gum and bone levels and evaluation of the tongue. All soft and hard surface details are documented in your digital chart. Digital photos and x-rays add to the completion of the chart. All this information is important for monitoring any changes over time.

Emergency Examinations

Unfortunately, these exams are needed to detect the source of pain, infection, broken teeth, or trauma. St. Clair Dental accommodates emergencies the same day.

Specific Examinations

These are exams done at the request of the patient to gather information on a service we offer or to answer a concern about their mouth. These exams will concentrate on the specific area of concern and will be necessary when we discuss the options for treatment.

Oral Cancer Screening

All Dentists and Hygienists at St. Clair Dental will routinely screen your lips, cheeks, roof of mouth, tongue and floor of mouth for any unusual changes. We do this every time you are in our chair. It is more important in those patients who have habits that put them at higher risk such as smoking, excessive alcohol, vaping, or chewing tobacco. Oral cancers may also be HPV related.

Take comfort in knowing we are always monitoring your health.
