Sedation
St. Clair Dental offers sedation options to help you receive dental care with ease and comfort.
Dental supervised whitening is the safest, most effective, and predictable technique to whiten your teeth. The products available have different concentrations of the active whitening ingredients and will be recommended based on individual needs.
Over the counter whitening strips are a good inexpensive treatment for teens who wish to brighten minimally. We do not advise whitening toothpastes due to the abrasiveness. This includes color correcting toothpastes.
When considering over the counter whitening products, please check with one of our team members for advice. Many factors affect product safety, we can advise based on your individual needs.
St. Clair Dental uses Nite White/Phillips Zoom in concentrations of 16% and 22% carbamide peroxide. Impressions or scans are taken of the upper and lower teeth to fabricate custom whitening trays. These trays will be worn at home filled with active whitening gel. This system is safe and effective for home whitening with minimal short-term sensitivity.
St. Clair Dental offers Pola Light whitening system as a less expensive home alternative. This system uses universal trays and incorporates a light that aides in activating the active ingredient. Pola uses a 9.5% hydrogen peroxide as its active whitening agent. This is also a safe and effective home system.
St. Clair Dental offers Opalescence Boost for an in-office whitening treatment. This system uses 40% hydrogen peroxide which is applied to the tooth surface by the hygienist in 15 minute increments over a 45 minute appointment. This system requires some isolation of the tissues to ensure a safe and effective whitening appointment. Boost creates an immediate improvement in tooth shade by the end of the in-office treatment. The boost system will be followed by a few days of Nite White excel III home treatment to fully establish the shade and avoid a relapse. The combination of these two systems will whiten the teeth several shades quickly and avoids weeks of home whitening. This system is strongly recommended when the initial shade of the teeth is quite dark or has a greyer hue compared to a yellow hue.
All whitening systems require maintenance with an at home touch up two to three times a year for 15 minutes. This will help maintain the new brighter and whiter shade as many foods and drinks contribute to darkening our teeth.
Ask your Dental Hygienist what system is best for you.
