Sedation
St. Clair Dental provides sedation solutions designed to ensure that patients experience dental treatment in a comfortable and relaxed manner.
Serving the Yonge-St. Clair area including Rosedale, Summerhill, Deer Park, Moore Park, and surrounding Midtown Toronto neighbourhoods
St. Clair Dental understands that many individuals have dental fears and anxieties that need assistance in being managed. There are also dental procedures that are longer in duration where it is beneficial for the patient to be sedated.
Nitrous Oxide (laughing gas)
A safe and effective method that uses nitrogen oxide delivered through a mask. With this method a patient remains conscious (awake) throughout the appointment with a relaxed and mellow feeling. An advantage of nitrous sedation is that it requires only an empty stomach prior to the appointment. At the completion of the appointment, oxygen is flowed through the mask, quickly returning the patient back to normal. This is a gentle and safe sedation for adults and children.
Oral Sedation
An alternative to nitrous oxide is an oral medication (pill) administered in the office. This provides a deeper level of sedation than nitrous oxide. The patient arrives one hour prior to the appointment to take the medication. This method requires a family member or friend to accompany the patient home.
Intravenous Sedation
This is a stronger level of sedation that is administered via intravenous. The patient is still conscious but in a deeper more relaxed state. The patient is monitored closely throughout. This method of sedation is ideal for extensive procedures and for those more anxious. This method also requires a family member or friend to accompany the patient home.

Yes, all three options we offer- nitrous oxide, oral sedation and IV sedation are safe. For IV sedation a dentist with additional training administers the medication. The patient is closely monitored throughout the procedure.
Will I be unconscious during sedation?
No. With nitrous oxide and IV sedation, you remain conscious and able to respond to instructions while feeling relaxed and comfortable. Oral sedation also keeps you relaxed, though the level of awareness may vary.
Do I need someone to drive me home?
For oral and IV sedation you will need someone to take you home.
Do you offer sedation for children?
Nitrous oxide is an easy and safe sedation for adults and children.
